Your Locally Owned, Independent Community Bank

Back in 1910, the people of Dixon felt they weren’t receiving the banking services they needed. And instead of waiting for something to change, they decided to take action. In true independent, do-it-yourself farming-community style, a group of local men and women came together to establish their own bank — and they named it Northern Solano Bank.

From the very beginning, their commitment was clear: local capital, local decisions, and local service — with no outside ownership or outside influence.

They elected a board of directors, appointed a committee, and sent them to San Francisco to purchase a safe and the basic tools necessary to open a bank. Just twelve days after that first meeting, Northern Solano Bank opened its doors — in what used to be an ice cream parlor — with a staff of two.

A year later, the bank made its next big move. After a spirited bidding process against the Bank of Dixon, they purchased “the Old Corner” property at North First and B Streets. Part of the existing structure was removed, replaced with a brand-new building, and in May of 1911 the bank reopened in its new home — sharing the space with a haberdashery, a harness maker, a cigar maker, Wells Fargo Express, and Pacific Telephone.

Over time, the bank evolved from a small agricultural institution to a full-service financial partner for a growing region. And, on January 1, 1980, the bank became known as First Northern Bank of Dixon. And just like previous transitions, while the name changed, the heart of the bank stayed exactly the same — the same leadership, the same shareholders, and the same dedication to serving our communities.
